WICHITA – With expected rain on the weekend, Newman and Pittsburg State began their weekend matchup on Thursday. The Jets and Gorillas battled it out at McCarthy Field Thursday afternoon and by the evening it was PSU who came out victorious in game one.

The Jets drop to 22-19 (12-16 MIAA) with the game one loss. Pitt State is now 24-17 (18-10 MIAA).
The Jets fell behind 4-0 in the top of the first with an RBI double and three run homerun that jump started the Gorillas.
After a bumpy top of the first, Garrett VanDeventer settled in allowing no more earned runs after the opening frame.
Three more unearned runs came across the plate in the top of the sixth before VanDeventer exited.
The Jets scratched across a run in the sixth with a
Hayden VanDePol RBI single. The Jets added two more in the seventh with a
Tyler Push single and
Jenner Steele sacrifice fly.
Tyler Push finished his day with 4 singles in 5 at bats with the one RBI as well as a run and a steal.
Despite
Andrew Prieve throwing three scoreless innings with five strikeouts, the Jets were unable to draw any closer and would fall 7-3.
