WICHITA – Newman fell to Pittsburg State Saturday afternoon. The Gorillas headed back to southeastern Kansas with three wins in their back pocket.

The Jets drop to 22-21 (12-18 MIAA) with the game three loss. Pitt State is now 26-17 (20-10 MIAA) with the series sweep.
Asher Finke dazzled with a strong 7 inning showing that ended in a no decision. After two unearned runs came in on a double in the first, Finke settled in, hurling 6 consecutive scoreless innings. Finke's line finished with 5 strikeouts, 0 earned runs, while spreading 6 hits and 2 walks over his 7 inning day.
The Newman offense was held hitless in the first four innings, but came to life in the fifth. Just after turning an inning ending double play in the top of the fifth, Shortstop,
Zack Stewart, turned the tides with a double to right center.
Anthony Ferrante was the next batter and sent a ball out to center field to even the game at 2 apiece.
Tyler Push put the Jets ahead 3-2 with an RBI single in the seventh.
The top of the eighth was where things went awry. The bullpen for the Jets was not on point. Three homeruns in the inning helped PSU put up 8 runs to put themselves firmly ahead.
One more was added in the ninth inning, leading to an 11-3 loss for the Jets and a series sweep for the Gorillas.
Up next the Jets will face off against Northeastern State for three games. The series begins Friday and will culminate with Senior Day on Sunday.
