WICHITA – Newman opened the final weekend with a loss to Northeastern State on Friday. The Jets were hampered by free bases as NSU capitalized on opportunities at a higher clip than Newman.
Final NSU 24 Newman 10
The Jets drop to 22-22 (12-19 MIAA). NSU is now 33-13 (21-10 MIAA).
Newman's inability to limit free bases hampered the Jets' defense in game one. Newman allowed 10 free bases to NSU's 4 in the opening contest.
Despite 4 multi-hit games and 14 hits overall, the Jets found themselves on the wrong side of a 24-10 decision. The RiverHawks had just five more hits, but were more devastating in comparison thanks to unwelcomed traffic on the bases.
VanDePol led the team with 4 hits while driving in a team best 4 runs.
Garrett VanDeventer took the loss, falling to 4-5 on the season.
Up next the Jets will face off against Northeastern State Saturday at 3 PM. Senior Day will culminate the series on Sunday. The Jets will play with their postseason lives on the line.
