Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Stephens scores first career goal in Jets loss to NWOSU

Alva, Okla. – Newman Women's soccer visited Alva, Oklahoma for a match against the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State. After coming off of a 5-0 loss just 3 days ago, the Jets were looking for their first goal and first win of the season. Newman, not recording a shot on goal last game was looking to turn things around and wash away the previous game.

NWOSU outshot Newman early 7-2 but neither team could put the ball in the net until the 27:03 mark when an NWOSU shot got past goalkeeper Jordan Webster. No less than 6 minutes later did NWOSU get their second goal of the game thanks to a Chrisi-Anne Mills assist which was her third point of the game.

The Jets were poised to cut the lead in half coming out of halftime with NWOSU struggling to get their third goal of the game as Jordan Webster made 2 saves early on. Newman was able to counter attack with 2 shots on goal in less than 4 minutes but couldn't get past the Ranger goalkeeper.

NWOSU extended their lead to 3-0 off of an Abby Nunez goal in the 64:35 mark of the game to put a stop to any Newman comeback. The Jets showed no sign of quitting as Maria Stephens was able to slip one past the goalkeeper and get her and the Jets first goal of the season at the 81:46 mark. NU showed improvements both offensively and defensively but the NWOSU offense was able to post 10 shots on goal to the Jets 6.

The Jets (0-2) return home and face William Jewell (0-1) this Thursday, September 1st on Staff Night at Wilkins Field. Game time is scheduled for 7 PM.
