WICHITA – Newman Women's soccer hosted William Jewell at Wilkins Field on Thursday in a physical and hard fought match. Both the Jets and the Cardinals came into this match determined to notch their first win of the season. That win unfortunately did not come for the Jets as they lost 3-1 after 3 unanswered goals by the Cardinals.

The Jets took an early lead with Jalyn McClean scoring her first goal of the season in the 4th minute of the game. The Jets celebration was unfortunately short lived, as William Jewell answered back with an equalizer in the 10th minute from Corrine Hughes, assisted by Riley Frasure-Smith.

Corrine Hughes went on to score both of the Cardinals final 2 goals, propelling herself to a hat trick. Her second goal was scored in the 50th minute and was assisted by Lux Sands. Her final goal came in the 86th minute, serving as the closer for what was a hard fought but tough loss for the Newman Jets.

The Jets (0-3) will travel to Bethany, Oklahoma for their next game against Southern Nazarene (1-2) Saturday, September 3rd in a game slated for 1 PM.
