Jets draw 2-2 in first game of home weekend stretch

WICHITA - The Jets Women's Soccer team hosted NSU under the Friday night lights to start off their weekend with a positive result as they drew 2-2 against the Riverhawks.

"Loved the work ethic and grit of the girls tonight. Northeastern is a great team that works hard and I'm happy that we matched it and scored some goals tonight" said Head Coach Dylan Gruntzel when asked about the Jets performance.

The game started off dangerous for Newman, with NSU scoring an early goal in the 3rd minute off a high shot by Myka Heimbach, who would add to NSU's lead in the 19th minute with her second goal of the night. NSU wouldn't score for the rest of the game however, as the Jets locked the field down with stellar play from their back line.

Newman would begin their comeback in the 31st minute of the game with a high left shot from sophomore Jalyn McClean to put the Jets on the board. After some late chances to end the first half, they would come out of halftime poised to level things out with NSU. It was another sophomore, Cassie Moeder, who would deliver an equalizer for Newman early in the second half as she found the back of the net in the 50th minute.

The Jets have shown improvement and have looked to build upon each game and on Friday night they continued to build as they tie a Northeastern State team that shutout a Rogers State squad that defeated the Jets last weekend. Newman however has a chance at revenge as they welcome the Hillcats of Rogers State to Wilkins Field this Sunday in a matchup slated for 1 pm.
