WICHITA - The Jets women's soccer team hosted Rogers State on Sunday for their first conference game of the season in a 90 minute defensive battle. Newman lost the game after a late goal in the second half put RSU up 1-0.

The Jets showed their defensive skill all game long, with a standout performance from Senior Maria Stephens who made multiple key plays to keep the Jets in the game and fighting, fitting her new leadership role that Coach Gruntzel spoke about on this weeks Jetcast. Junior keeper Jordan Webster also had a great game, notching 11 saves on 12 shots on goal to keep RSU out of the net for most of the game.  

Newman was able to keep RSU scoreless through almost the entire game, with the only goal of the game coming late in the 81st minute off a shot from Hannah Shulze. The Jets would attempt to rally back with multiple late chances and a late game corner kick, but were unable to even the score up by the end of the game.

The Jets will continue conference play this Friday, September 23rd at 6PM when they go on the road to play Missouri Southern in Joplin, Missouri.
