MUSKOGEE, Okla. –  The Muskogee Country Club was the host site as the Newman Jets Men's Golf team took part in the NSU Golf Classic on Monday and Tuesday. This was the first of five tournaments that Newman would compete in this fall before starting their Spring campaign. NU competed against 17 other schools, 9 of them being MIAA members in what was a heavily contested field.
 
Round 1 of the tournament was an unexpected outcome for NU, shooting 318 before a round 2 score of 326. Justin Looper and Jaden Hightower both finished round 1 with +7, finishing the first 9 holes with a score of +3 before finishing the round with a score of +4, shooting 78. Hightower finished round 2 4 strokes higher than round 1 as Noah Ahrens took 2 strokes off his round 1 score of 83 and finished day 1 of the NSU classic by shooting 81 in round 2.
 
Newman entered day 2 of the tournament down 2 men as Layton Love and Tyler Horn withdrew from the classic. Down to 5 men for day 2, NU looked to recover from a rocky start in day 1 of the tournament and bounce back with a positive result. Noah Ahrens had the best finish in round 3 of the tournament for the Jets as the Freshmen shot 75 which was good for +4 which was the best round score for the Jets in the NSU Classic. Bailor Harris followed Ahrens with a +8 score in day 2, shooting 79 on the day.
 
Harris, Ahrens, and Looper were able to finish round 3 with a lower score than rounds 1 and 2.
 
Ahrens finished the NSU Classic tied for 87^th, which ended up being the best for Newman. As a team NU finished in 18^th and will look to work out early season struggles this week and prepare for a better start in next week's MSSU Fall Invite in Monkey Island Oklahoma.
