Women's Bowling captures Peacock Classic Championship, wins 40th game of the season

WATERLOO, IA. - Women's Bowling traveled to Waterloo, Iowa this weekend to compete in the Peacock Classic hosted by Upper Iowa University. 

The Jets would get off to a slow start to the weekend losing the first 2 matches of the day but would get refocused and win the next two matches to finish the first day with a 2-2 match play record. NU would find themselves in 2nd place to start day 2, trailing host Upper Iowa by 70 pins.

The Jets came out on day 2 and were very intent on competing at a higher level and would go 5-0 to make their match record 7-2. Newman would average 204 for the 5 team games and go from down 70 to leading by 633 pins after the second day. 

Day 3 would start with a 1st round matchup with the host, Upper Iowa and a trip to the championship on the line.  The Jets would come out in the match fast and win the first 3 games to take the 3-0 lead in the best of 7 match. Game 4 would go to the peacocks but the Jets would take control of the match winning game 5 to win the match 4-1 and reach their first championship match in their first year in NCAA competition.

The Jets would face Lewis University in the championship and the match was very similar to the semi final match as Newman went up 3-0 and lose game 4. However, the Jets would strike right back in game 5 and win the Peacock Classic and capture first NCAA tournament. 

Newman was paced by Kensley Morris who averaged 221.6 and would be named tournament MVP. Morgan Cooper would also be named to the All-Tournament Team, averaging 220.6. 

The Jets improve their record to 40-22 for the season and are on the road again this weekend in St Louis, Missouri at the Saints Classic hosted by Maryville University.
