HAYS, KS - Newman wrestling continued its conference slate on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Hays, Kansas to take on Fort Hays State who was looking for its first conference victory and 2nd overall victory of the season.
 
Fort Hays State took an early 3-0 lead with Levin Honas defeating Dylan Sheler by an 8-4 decision. Newman would tie the match up as Jevin Foust took a 3-0 decision over the Tigers' Corbin White.
 
The Tigers would score 15 unanswered points, winning the next three matches by fall, a 5-3 decision, and forfeit at the 157 lb weight class to take an 18-3 lead.
 
Jace Fisher got the Jets their next 4 points by defeating Blaise Ronnau by major decision 12-3 to put the score after 6 matches at 18-7. It would be the only major decision win for Newman on the day.
 
Fort Hays State took the final 4 matches - 1 by major decision, 2 by fall and 1 by technical fall to win the dual over Newman 39-7.
 
The Jets have 2 more duals, 1 being their final MIAA dual of the season against Central Missouri leading up to regionals.
 
They will return to the mat next Saturday, February 1st, in Mulvane, Kansas to face Labette.
