ST. LOUIS, MO. - Women's Bowling dominated the lanes again over the weekend in St. Louis to earn their 2nd tournament championship after defeating Lewis University in the 2023 Columbia 300 Saints Invite.
The Jets would go 4-1 on day 1, recovering after a close game 1 loss to win 4 straight to end in 5th place after the first day of play.
Day 2 would see Jets go 4-1 again, but Newman would outscore everyone in the field to take over the lead to finish day 3 in first place.
NU would have one more match to play to start the third day of bowling before bracket play and the Jets started off sluggish but would make a late run that came up just 2 pins shy, losing to Lewis University 940-942 to finish match play 8-3 before bracket play.
The Jets would be the 2 seed in the bracket and would face No.10 Maryville University and would fall behind 2 games to 0 in the best of 7 match but found their stride winning the next 3 games taking a 3-2 lead in the match. Maryville would tie it up in game six but the lady Jets would shoot 223 in game 7 to win the match 4-3 and move on to the championship in a rematch against Lewis University.
The championship match would be a back and forth with both teams winning 2 of the first 4 games but yet again the Jets would take over the match winning games 5 and 6 to win the championship 4-2 over Lewis, their 2nd NCAA event Championship in their 1st season of play.
Newman was led by senior Morgan Cooper who averaged 210 for the event and would finish in 2
nd place to earn a spot on the all tournament team.
The Jets are now 50-25 on the season and will enjoy a week off before competing at the Flyer classic on Feb 10-12 hosted by Lewis University.
