TOPEKA, KS. - The Jets struggled on the road against nationally ranked Washburn, losing in three sets on Thursday evening.
The Jets had improved on the offensive side of the ball in the past several matches, including some of their best sets of the season against Southern Nazarene on Monday.
The Ichabods started out the first set scoring the first seven points before the Jets could even respond. Washburn would go on several more scoring runs, scoring five or more points in each before Newman could get back into the game. Washburn took the first set 25-10.
Newman started out the second set better than the first, going up 4-1, before more lengthy Ichabod runs controlled the pace of the game. After their opening run, Newman was unable to score more than 2 points in a row.
Washburn had to grind out the win in the third set, with Jets able to respond early and often after Ichabod points. One final scoring run proved to be vital in the set, with the Ichabods winning 25-15.
Natalie Meyer led the Jets in kills with 7.
Mckinzie Weaver once again led in the assist colum with 10.
Natalie Morales led the team in digs with 12.
The Jets will have one more road match against Emporia State on Saturday, before returning for their second home stand of the season, beginning with Pittsburg State next Tuesday.
