Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball plays closest set of the season in 2nd set loss to Hornets

EMPORIA, KS. - Volleyball played in another tough loss on Saturday evening, losing in three sets to Emporia State. The Jets showed tremendous strides on offense in the second set, but it was not enough to overcome their opponent.

As has been the case for most of the first sets this season, the Jets got off to a slow start and could not recover enough to make much of an offensive impact on the set. The Hornets went on several lengthy runs, winning it by a large margin. Hornets would take the first set 25-15 despite a late effort from Newman that saw several service aces and two kills from Ozioma Ajekwu

The Jets continued their hot streak from the first set, scoring the first three points of the set. The lead would eventually grow to a 7-1 lead, and one that Jets would be looking to take for their first set win in conference play.

The remainder of the set would be one of the most entertaining and thrilling sets of the season so far as both teams traded blows in trying to take their opponent out of commission. A kill from Ajekwu would level the score up at 24 a piece, meaning one team would have to go beyond the 25 point margin.

Natalie Meyer would level it up at 25, but the Hornets would score the final two points of the set and take it with a 27-25 scoreline.

The third set was back and forth once again, until the Hornets delivered the killing blow with a 6-1 scoring run to take the final set, 25-17.

The Jets will return home starting at Tuesday against Pittsburg State, in what will be a long home stand for the Jets as they look to have a strong finish to the regular season.
