WICHITA - The Jets returned home on Thursday following their upset win over Southern Nazarene this past weekend to take on the Harding Bisons in their second meeting of the season.
The Jets had defeated the Bisons 3-0 last month, in a match that saw three different goal scorers.
The majority of the first half was controlled by the Jets in the Harding half, but struggled to break through, having several opportunities that threatened to score.
Against the run of play, the Bisons were awarded a corner and would go on to score off the set piece play. It was a lead that Harding took to the half, even as Newman continued to apply the pressure.
The onslaught would continue early into the second half, and a goal would wind up in the back of the net less than three minutes after play had resumed. Freshman
Damian Gonzalez would be in the right place at the right time as he tapped in a shot with multiple players from both teams in the box. An initial shot was saved on the line, but the goal meant the game was once again level.
Cards began to fly at a high in the second half, with both teams receiving multiple yellow cards.
The Bisons would take the lead again with just about 20 minutes left to play, but it would prove to be a major undertaking for them to secure the win.
Harding went down to 10 men following a straight red card, which gave the Jets hopes of scoring the leveler. The Jets would be unable to capitalize on the situation and lost 2-1.
The Jets will be back at home for senior day on Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 1 PM. Senior day festivities will begin shortly before the game.
