WARRENSBURG, MO - Volleyball headed back on the road once again to take on Central Missouri, who received votes in the AVCA coaches poll this week.
The Jets had just come off their first home stand of the season, taking on Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State last week.
In what was a repeat of many early sets for Newman, the Jennies took control of the first set by on lengthy scoring runs. The Jets were unable to score more than two points in a row, as Central Missouri took the first set 25-10.
The Jets faired a little better in the second set, at one point scoring four straight, forcing several Jennies errors in the process. The run came a little too late however, as the Jennies would also take the second set 25-14.
The Jets would then go on to play one of their best sets so far this season, taking the Jennies till the bitter end. With the score at 18-11 in favor of Central Missouri, the Jets would go on a fantastic scoring run that would bring them within a single point of the lead. Kills by
Ozioma Ajekwu and
Makenna Reinert helped lead the Jets to bring the score to 18-17.
The Jennies would get back out to a three point lead, but the Jets still would not give up.
Another kill from Ajekwu and three errors from the Jennies gave the Jets a one point advntage.
A kill from
Hannah Brisco put the Jets in a match point situation, the first time they had done so in conference play.
Despite the valiant effort, Central Missouri took the set with a score of 26-24 following a late comeback run.
Avery Dempsey had a season high in assists with 20, while
Makenna Reinert added 10 kills and
Natalie Morales had 14 digs in the loss
The Jets will head down to Missouri Southern on Friday, and will remain on the road for the following three matches.
