Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Jets show improvement on offense in three match set with Crimson Storm

Final two sets were tightly contested

BETHANY, OK. - Volleyball played its final non-conference match of the season, heading to Southern Nazarene on Monday. Although the Crimson Storm won the match in three sets, the Jets showed signs of improvement on the offensive side of the ball, including several lengthy runs in the second and third set.

The first set was out of reach for the Jets early, with the Crimson Storm going on a 10-3 scoring run to win the first set 25-15.

With the match reaching a match point situation for the Crimson Storm, the Jets went on  one of their most impressive offensive runs of the season, with Newman scoring 7 straight points without reply from SNU. It put the match within four points after it seemed for certain SNU would get the set win easily, but the run gave the Jets life in a match that got the offense churning.

The Crimson Storm would win the second set 25-20, but the Jets showed signs that they might take a set in the third.

The third set was back and forth from the get go, with both teams taking an advantage and giving up the lead. The tide would turn when the Jets took a 10-8 lead. Southern Nazarene had a blistering offensive performance that saw three straight service aces for the Crimson Storm.

The Jets would crawl back into the game, and would get to within 3 with the score at 23-20. SNU would take a second straight set with a 25-20 scoreline and settled the game in three sets.

Makenna Reinert once again had the most kills for the Jets with 7. Ozioma Ajekwu would also have seven kills in the match. Mckinzie Weaver had eleven assists in the contest.

Newman will hope to carry some of the offesnive momentum they gained tonight, with two more road matches coming up later this week. The Jets will travel to #20 Washburn on Thursday, and will end the week at Emporia State. .
