Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball falls in MIAA opener

Stanton leads with 25 points

WICHITA - Men's Basketball hosted Lincoln to open up their 2023-24 MIAA Conference slate, as they struggled to come from behind late in the game.

Going into conference play, the Jets were at 3-2, winning three of their first four at home.

The game started off slow for both teams, as neither one was able to hit many shots in the opening stages of the game. Boston Stanton would get his name on the score sheet early and often as he would get 5 out of the first 7 points for Newman.

The game remained close through most of the first half, with the Blue Tigers taking a slight advantage into the half with a six point lead.

The half would not start off well for Newman, as they fouled a Lincoln player attempting a three pointer just seconds into the half. Lincoln would go up double digits and would be up the rest of the half.

Stanton and some clutch shots from a returning Stevie Strong helped keep the game competitive, but it was to no avail as the Jets could not seem to get themselves out of the hole.

The Blue Tigers would end up winning by 12, in what would be the last time the teams would meet in the MIAA before Lincoln switches to the GLVC.

Stanton's 25 points was a career best for the IUPUI transfer. Strong added 16 in the loss.

Sam Somerhalder's streak of scoring in double digits came to an end tonight, but was just two points off another double-double.

The Jets will look to bounce back on Saturday when they host the Central Missouri Mules at 3:30 pm.
