HOUSTON, TEXAS. - The Jets competed in the Kat Klash this week hosted by Sam Houston State University. The Jets got off to a great start on day 1 with wins over Grambling State University 935-793, Texas Southern University 1010-779, Oklahoma Christian University 911-870, and Alabama State University 1061-897.
The Jets would suffer their only loss on day 1 to host #8 Sam Houston State University 922-1087. The Jets would average 193.7 for 25 baker games and finish day 1 of qualifying in 6
th place.
On the second day, the Jets would face the #9 Maryville University Saints in their first match. As is the case each time the Jets face the Saints, it was a close and competitive match that came down to the 10
th frame. The Jets would seize control late and take the victory 1116-1091.
Match 2 would be against #10 Louisiana Tech University. In another really close match that came down to the last frame, the Jets would knock off the #8 ranked team 1001-988 for the win.
The Jets would go on to win the next 3 matches with victories over #19 Central Missouri University 1017-932, Prairie View A&M University 931-815 and #21 Lincoln Memorial University 988-853 to finish the day with a 5-0 record. The Jets would finish qualifying with a 9-1 record in 6
th place by total pinfall.
The Jets were led by
Kassidy Miller (So.) who averaged 223 and would earn her 2
nd All-Tournament Team honor of the season. Junior
Vanessa Noftsier and freshman
Alexis Shea averaged 206.75 and 203.2 respectively to help the Jets to their 5-0 record on day 2 of the event.
On Sunday, bracket play would begin with #4 North Carolina A&T State University. The Jets bowled their best match of the year so far, but the Aggies held the Jets off with a 2-4 win in the best of 7 baker match format.
The Jets would bounce back and defeat Oklahoma Christian University with a 4-1 win to set up a final match of bracket play with #3 University of Nebraska to determine 5
th and 6
th place for the event. The Jets bowled well but the Huskers would sweep the Jets 0-4.
The top five of the Kat Klash final results included champion #10 Louisiana Tech University, #8 Sam Houston State University, #9 Maryville University, #4 North Carolina A&T State University, and #3 University of Nebraska. The Jets finished the Kat Klash with a 10-3 record and a 6
th place finish.
The Jets will finish the first half of the regular season next weekend with a trip to Kenosha, Wisconsin to compete in the Lady Jack Classic hosted by #4 Stephen F. Austin State University. The field will include 7 of the top 10 nationally ranked programs.
