WICHITA - Newman's comeback fell short on Sunday afternoon, falling 6-5 in a 9 inning thriller to Minot State.
Â
Minot State's onslaught in yesterday's game looked like it would continue today when they jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first 6 innings, however Newman shut the Beavers out in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings to give the offense the opportunity for a comeback.
Â
Neman used 2 big innings to mount a comeback off the back of 2
Jenner Steele 2 run home runs in the 6th and 8th and a
Carson Hawks home run in the 8th to make it a 6-5 game heading into the 9th.
Â
Jared Granger and
Andrew Prieve held the Beavers scoreless in the 8th and 9th inning to keep the Beaver lead at 6-5.
Â
Newman looked to be set for another walkoff win with bases loaded and 1 out in the bottom of the 9th but Minot State's Loeb struck out the final 2 batters to give the Beavers the series win.
Â
Newman (3-6) returns to play on Tuesday when they take on Southwestern College on Tuesday.
