WICHITA - Same outcome, different method. The Jets won their 4th straight game which was also their 4th straight game where they would run rule their opponents. Newman dominated Missouri Western and took the series win, 12-2.
Asher Finke moved to 2-1 on the season after giving up only 2 runs and 4 hits in 6.1 innings pitched. He'd strike out 4 batters in the outing.
9 different Jets combined for 15 hits in the 10 run victory.
Hayden Vandepol and
Shawn Marquis led the way on the offensive side with 3 hits each.
Eli Wohl,
Jake Angelico,
Jenner Steele,
Zack Stewart,
Jack Kiser, and Marquis all had RBI's in the game.
While yesterday's game saw the Jets play small ball to scramble the Griffons, Newman used timely hitting to wear down MWSU. The Griffons made just 2 errors compared to their 10 from yesterday.
The first 2 innings were scoreless from both teams but Marquis would get the Jets on the board with an RBI double in the 3rd inning and would be scored the very next at bat by
Jake Angelico with a single up the middle. Marquis would score again later in the 5th inning on a
Jack Kiser sacrifice fly to give NU a 3-0 lead.
MWSU would get 2 back in the top of the 6th but would get no more the rest of the way.
Ian Lecki came in relief for Finke in the top of the 6th with runners on 1st and 2nd and would get out of the jam by turning a 1-6-3 double play.
Newman put up a 5 spot in the bottom of the 7th, starting with a 2 run home run by
Zack Stewart and capped off by a
Jenner Steele single to left field that would score Marquis for the 3rd time in the game to walk it off for the Jets. Stewart's home run was his 7th of the season and ties
Jenner Steele for the team lead.
