Jets outhit No. 17 Lions in 12-16 loss

JOPLIN, Mo. - Newman outhit the No. 17 Missouri Southern Lions 18-14 in a high scoring 12-16 loss this afternoon. The loss gives MSSU the series win and moves the Lions to 6-2 all time vs the Jets. Jenner Steele hit his team leading 15th home run of the season and went a perfect 5-5 at the plate. He scored three times at the plate. Joe Kinneberg tied a season high with 4 hits today. Joe went 4-6 at the plate and hit his first home run of the season. Jake Angelico and Jason Schneider both hit home runs in the game. Angelico and Schneider both finished with 3 RBI's. Jack Kiser finished the game 2-4 with a double and 3 RBI's. Just like yesterday, the Jets would jump out to an early lead. Jenner Steele hit a three run home run and Jack Kiser hit a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-0 lead after the 1st inning. Missouri Southern responded with another big 1st inning, scoring 5 runs. The Lions would score 10 unanswered runs heading into the top of the 5th inning. Jack Kiser doubled down the right field line to score 2 runs. Hayden VanDePol's sacrifice fly made it a 3 run game. Angelico singled to right field to score Kiser to make it a 2 run game. The Lions scored 2 in the 5th to make it a 12-8 game but the deficit for the Jets turned to 3 when Steele homered to left field. Missouri Southern exploded for 4 runs in the 7th inning to push their lead to 6. Down 6 runs, Newman scored 3 runs off Kinneberg and Angelico home runs, and a wild pitch. The Jets had the tying run in the on deck circle, but the Lions struck out Kiser on a 10 pitch at bat to end the game. Newman will try and avoid the sweep tomorrow afternoon. Game 3 is set for a 1 PM start.
