WICHITA - McCarthy Field hosted its final home game in 2023 as Newman took on Oklahoma Baptist in their final home and midweek matchup.
OBU, a home run heavy team, hit four home runs in the games. The Bison offense tallied 11 hits for 12 runs.
Newman went into the 4th inning down four runs.
Joe Kinneberg stayed continued to provide run support with an RBI single to center. The Bison would respond with three straight runs the next two innings.
Down 7-1,
Zack Stewart hit his 14th home run of the season over the left center field fence to make it a 7-3 game. Jace Schneider singled the next inning to score
Jenner Steele to cut the deficit to three runs.
Unfortunately for the Jets, OBU seemed to have an answer for almost every Jet run. The Bison jumped out to a 9-4, then eventual 12-6 lead for the win.
Jake Angelico and
Cullen Glosson gave NU their final two runs of the game.
The Jets move to 19-25 and will spend their final two weeks of the season on the road. They'll begin a three game MIAA series at Pittsburg State this weekend, before heading to Oklahoma next weekend to face Northeastern State to close the regular season.
