WICHITA - Women's soccer was defeated in their home opener against Southern Nazarene on Thursday, being shutout 3-0 by the Crimson Storm.
The Jets started the game off strong, dominating the ball in the midfield for the opening 20 minutes. Shots from
Makenzie Shay,
Morgan Houston, and Maylani Brickbichler all came from within the first eight minutes of the game, with two of the shots having to be saved from Crimson Storm keeper Gianna Bonnett.
Southern Nazarene broke through at the 30th minute, and didn't look back the rest of the way. Despite the setback, the Jets continued to fight till half, with it all being even in almost every category but the score.
The Crimson Storm came out hanging fire, as they dominated possession on Newman's side of the field. The score remained 1-0 until SNU capitalized on two late opportunities, winning the game 3-0.

Jordan Webster had two saves, coming off her record year of making 129 saves in the 2022 season.
Despite the loss, Coach
Dylan Gruntzel took away some positives at the end of the game. "(In the first half) We out possessed them and created some opportunities early on...We are creating opportunities and keeping the ball, but we need to clean up and be better in transition."
Newman falls to 1-2 all time against Southern Nazarene, with the Crimson Storm winning the last two matchups. The Women return on Saturday at 7 P.M. to take on the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers.
