WICHITA - Women's soccer picked up their first win of the season over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday, following a second half comeback.
The women were coming off a 3-0 loss to Southern Nazarene earlier in the week. As in the previous game, the Jets started with good possession in the midfield but struggled to find a hold in the attacking third. With the match level nearing halftime, the Rangers broke through with about three minutes left in the half.
Making some changes at halftime, the Jets again controlled the possession throughout most of the field, as they continued to look for a break through.
The breakthrough came only three minutes into the half, as midfielder Maylani Brickbichler scored her first goal of the season. The sophomore from Lantana, Texas only had one goal in the previous campaign. She would break her scoring record in the span of five minutes.
Shorlty after her first, Brickbichler had a stunning strike from outside of the box to put the Jets up 2-1 and the crowd into a frenzy.
Goalkeeper
Jordan Webster helped play a major part in the game on the other side of the ball. The senior veteran made four saves in the second half, including making one of the biggest saves of her Newman career in the 90th minute, saving a shot heading towards the bottom right corner. The save ensured the Jets first win of the season.
With the win, the Jets equaled their win total from last year, showing major signs of improvement. This is the earliest win that the Jets have had in a season since 2018, where the Jets defeated Nebraska-Kearney on the road 2-0.
Newman is on the road for the next two games, as they head to Pueblo to take on CSU Pueblo and Colorado Mesa on Friday and Sunday respectively.
