WICHITA – Men's soccer was defeated 2-0 by University of Colorado - Colorado Springs in the season opener on Friday.
Expectations for the Jets are much higher than they had been the past several seasons, with a batch of new faces in the starting lineup tonight. The Jets look smooth in possession and were dominant on all three fronts during the majority of the first half.
The game started extremely physical as well, with both sides picking up multiple yellow cards throughout the game. UCCS Coach Lewis Wilcox picked up a yellow on the bench only a few minutes into the game as well.
The Mountain Lions scored near the end of the first half to break the deadlock, but the Jets continued to stay persistent on the ball.
UCCS broke into the scoring again, this time coming off a throw in six minutes into the second half.
Multiple Jets had good opportunities late into the half.
Paulo Villalobos had two good looks from outside the 18, Niccolo Lai also posed a problem going forward and playing as a full back. The closest opportunity of the night came from
Alberto Romano, who had his shot ricochet off the crossbar.
Juan Carlos Cordova started in goal, and made a pair of saves.
Newman falls to 1-4 all time against UCCS. The Jets will be back in action on Sunday, as they take on Rockhurst at 2 P.M.
