Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bellosta Manchon scores fifth goal of the season in 1-1 draw at Southwest Baptist

Jets score penalty; not enough to avoid draw with Bearcats

BOlIVAR, MO - The Jets tied with the Southwest Baptist Bearcats on Tuesday in their final non-conference match of the season.

Newman was coming off a 3-2 loss on the road at Quincy that saw all five goals scored in the first half of the game. The Jets also saw two red cards, meaning a slight change to the normal lineup in Tuesday afternoon's matchup, with Nathan Aseidu, Asa Moncivias, and Adrian Muhabuki all making their first starts of the season.

Juan Carlos Cordova returned from suspension following his red card against Colorado Christian last Thursday. He would make three saves during the match.

The Jets offense continued to start their matches off hot, having ten shots on goal in each half, with nine hitting on target.

Newman wouldn't break through until the second half, with substitute Carlos Bellosta Manchon scoring his fifth goal of the season off a penalty. It was also the second straight game that Bellosta Manchon scored from the penalty spot, having scored the first goal for Newman in the 3-2 loss against Quincy. It's the most goals Carlos has scored in a season, beating a previous record of three in the 2019 and 2022 campeigns.

The goal wasn't enough for the Jets, as the Bearcats were able to get a late equalizer in the 84th minute off a penalty.

The Jets end non-conference play with a 1-2-2 record heading into GAC/MIAA competition.

The Jets will be on the road to start conference playing, heading to Fort Hays State next Thursday, and will have their first conference game at home against Rogers State next Saturday at 1 PM.
