PITTSBURGH, KS - Volleyball opened up their conference schedule on the road at Pittsburgh State on Tuesday night, losing in three sets. Although being swept for the third time in four games, the Jets showed fight amd spirit in several close sets.
The Jets struggled to get off on the right foot, losing the first set 25-11. The start of the set was back and forth, but the Gorillas pulled away in the middle of the action and kept their intensity up for the remainder of the matchup.
The second set saw a close loss for Newman, as the Gorillas were able to win 25-20. The talking point was not the Gorillas win in this set however.
Senior
Natalie Morales surpassed 1,000 digs in her Newman career in the second set. She would go on to end the game with 12, which led the Jets overall in that category, and second overall between either team.
Pittsburg State would win the third and final set 25-15.
Natalie Meyer led the Jets with five kills, while
Avery Dempsey added 11 assists.
The Jets will be on the road for the next three matchups, before finally hosting their home opener on September 28th, talking on nationally ranked Nebraska-Kearney.
