WICHITA - Newman hosted their second game in as many days, taking on Fort Hays State Friday evening.
The Jets were coming off one of their most impressive outtings of the season, taking on #9 Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday. Although it was a sweep for the Lopers, the Jets showed that they were able to hang with some of the top teams in the country.
The first set was back and forth in the beginning, but following a lengthy run by the Tigers, there was not much room for offense for Newman who was only able to put up 11 points.
The next two sets played out in a similar fashion, with more long scoring runs coming from Fort Hays before the Jets were even able to respond. The Tigers took the second set 25-13 and the third with the score of 25-14.
Ozioma Ajekwu led the team in kills with 8, while
Avery Dempsey added 10 assists on the night.
The Jets will be back on the road for the next five conference matchups, and will return home on October 17th to take on Pittsburg State.
