Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball downed late by Hillcats

WICHITA - In an offensive showcase, the Jets hosted Rogers State in Newman's first home conference game in a month. The game was another close one that the Jets fell on the wrong side of late.

The Hillcats started the game on a 10-3 run, including hitting the first two shots of the game from three. After a quick timeout to regroup, the Jets found themselves in the lead going up 11-10 without a Rogers State reply.

Despite the impressive run, Rogers State quickly took the lead again and would go up by almost 20. The Jets would go on another run to cut the lead, with Latik Murphy hitting a three to cut the lead to just 10.

The Jets continued to try and push the ball into the paint, and while they would score plenty to make the game more manageable, the Hillcats always seemed to be another step ahead to maintain the lead.

The Jets cut it down to just five points with only a few minutes remaining, but it again was another run undercut by Rogers State who went on another run to put away the game.

Stevie Smith went almost perfect from the field and three throw line, as he would grab 17 points on the night. Stevie Strong had yet another night of scoring in double digits, scoring 14.

The Jets will look to bounce back from the loss when they host Northeastern State on Saturday at 3:30.
