Ichabods steal late win from Jets

Murphy scores six three pointers

TOPEKA, KS. - In what was a game that looked like it was going to be a defensive slugfest in the first half, both the Jets and Ichabods exploded with offense in the second half.

The Jets, who had picked up three conference wins in the first month of conference play, were looking to get another on the road at a tough Washburn team who had recieved votes in the Division II coaches poll this week.

The Jets could not have asked for a better start, with a 6-0 run in the first two minutes of the game. Latik Murphy rose to the occassion in this game, as he would hit the first of six threes in the game, with two of them coming back to back in quick succession.

The Ichabods got close to taking the lead, by several fastbreak opportunities for Newman paid off as the Jets continued to grow the lead.

Lead by Murphy and resurgent Stevie Strong, the Jets were able to take a four point lead into the half, which was also the first lead the team has had at the half while on the road.

Just as Washburn tied the game at the start of the half, Murphy again responded with a monster three to retake the lead.

The two teams would trade the lead back and forth for the next ten minutes, but it was the Ichabods that get the first real advantage in the half as they took their biggest lead of the day.

Unfazed, the Jets would tie the game at 70 following a long scoring run with just over five minutes. It was the last time the two teams would be tied.

The Ichabods would once again take control of the game, and would go on to win 92-83.

Latik Murphy had one of his best games in his Newman career behind his 22 points.Three other Jets would reach double digits as well in the loss.

The Jets will look to rebound from back to back losses when they host Rogers State and Northeastern State next weekend.
