Jets edged out by Lions

Volleyball drops match in three close sets

WICHITA- The Jets hosted Missouri Southern in a Friday night contest. Newman battled against the Lions in three sets, extending two sets to 29 points. The Jets fell short, 3-0. 
 
-In set one, the Jets started with the early 5-1 lead thanks to errors by the Lions and a kill by Camdyn Kindred. The Lions then stormed back to tie the game at 7-7. The Jets then went on another run due to kills by McKenna Rhodes to take the lead back to 12-9. The Lions were able to answer the Jets run again by taking the lead at 17-14. Kills by Natalie Meyer and Kindred closed the game to 17 all. The Lions were able to push their lead to 23-18, but the Jets weren't done fighting. Newman was able to tie the set at 24 all and had set point at 26-26 but weren't able to connect. The Lions ended up winning the set 29-27.
-The Lions jumped out to a lead of 5-2. The Jets were able to tie it up at 5 all with service aces from Grace Irwin. The Jets and Lions battled the set out until the 14-14 mark. After this mark, the Lions went on a run to 18-14. The Jets were unable to put a run together and dropped set two, 25-17.
-Set three was another extended point set. The Jets found the lead at 6-4 and were able to take that lead to 10-5 with kills by Meyer and Rhodes. The Jets and Lions continued to trade the lead with multiple ties. The Lions found themselves at 22-21, but Makenna Reinert led the Jets to the lead with two kills in a row to make the score 23-22 in favor of Newman. However, the Lions battled back and found themselves with a match point at 25-24. A kill from Ozioma Ajekwu tied the score at 25-25. The Lions had yet another match point at 27-26, but a kill from Rhodes extended the game. The Lions were able to close out the game with the next two points, making the final score 29-27.
-The Jets dropped the match 3-0.

-Madalyn Hoot recorded 23 assists with 9 digs. 
 
The Jets are back tomorrow against Central Missouri at 3 PM.
