Jets fall on the road to Fort Hays State

Delphine Sosu scores her first goal of the season

HAYS, Kan.- The Jets ended their weekend of play at Fort Hays State. The last time out, the Jets scored two goals in a close battle with UNK, where the Lopers were took the game 3-2. This time out, the Jets fell short 2-1. 

How It Happened:
- In the first few minutes the Jets offense was aggressive and found early opportunities. In the 2nd minute the Jets had an opportunity on goal after a free kick was awarded to Newman. Lexi Bauer tried to head the ball in, but the Tigers keeper was able to make the save. Minutes later, Devynn Knipp had an opportunity outside of 15 yards, but didn't quite have enough power on it to get past the keeper. In the first ten minutes of play, the Jets recorded four shots on goal. Though the Jets were winning the possession battle for the majority of the half, the Tigers were able to connect in the 29th minute. A Tiger goal from Sydney Cotter allowed Fort Hays to take the lead at 1-0. Just minutes after the Tigers goal, Jalyn McClean had a one on one opportunity inside the box but the shot went just wide of the post. At the end of the first half the Tigers kept the lead at 1-0. In the half Newman tallied eight shots with five on goal. Eight different Jets added shots in the first half. Carla Apodaca had five saves in the half to help hold the Tigers to just one goal.
- Newman had a few opportunities early in the second half. Delphine Sosu had a shot saved by the Tigers. Then, in the 56th minute McClean had another one on one opportunity but the Tigers goalkeeper was able to get a hand on it. McClean had an opportunity off the deflected shot but couldn't connect with the back of the net. In the 78th minute, Chaney Gracen of Fort Hays was able to connect from the corner to extend the Tigers lead to 2-0. With seven minutes left to play, Sosu had a transition opportunity but the Tigers defense was able to hold her off. Finally, in the 84th minute Sosu received a great ball from Kinsey Logan to put the Jets on the board and cut the deficit to only one with six minutes left to play. The Jets had a few looks at the goal in the closing minutes but couldn't even the score. The Tigers took the match, 2-1.

- Nine different Jets recorded shots. 
- Apodaca added seven saves.

The Jets head to Pittsburg State on Friday, October 18th to take on the Gorillas.
