Three goals power Gorillas over Jets

Jets fall to Pittsburg State, 3-0

PITTSBURG, Kan.-  The Jets traveled to Pittsburg to take on the Gorillas for the first time. The Gorillas are in their first year of having a Women's Soccer program. Last time out, the Jets fell to Fort Hays, 2-1 on the road. This time out, the Gorillas took the match3-0.

How It Happened:
-In the first few minutes the Jets found an opportunity with a shot on goal by Jalyn McClean in the 7th minute that was saved by the Gorillas goalkeeper. Delphine Sosu had a shot a few seconds later, but the shot was blocked. The Gorillas had a few shots that were off target in the first 20 minutes, then finally placed one on target but Carla Apodaca was able to make the save to keep Pitt State off the board. In the 27th minute the Gorillas were able to put one in the back of the net to take the lead 1-0. The Gorillas were able to convert a penalty kick in the 28th minute to extend their lead to 2-0. For the rest of the first half the Gorillas held possession of the ball, but the Jets held Pitt State to only two goals going into the break. In the first 45 minutes, the Jets tallied three shots on goal with four total shots.
-The Jets had some opportunities in the second half to cut the deficit. In the 57th minute a free kick by the Jets allowed Kinsey Logan to have a good look on goal but the shot didn't have quite enough power to sneak past the goalkeeper. In the 58th minute the Gorillas found the back of the net again to extend their lead to 3-0. In the 72nd minute, Maylani Birckbichler had an opportunity to score but was saved by the goalie. The Jets last chance to put a goal on the board came in the 84th minute after being awarded a corner kick, but Newman couldn't connect. The Jets put up a total of eight shots with five of them on goal. The Gorillas out shot the Jets with 21 total shots with eight on goal. 
-Newman fell 3-0 to Pittsburg State

Player Notes:
-Kinsey Logan. Jaylyn McClean, Birckbichler, Makenzie Shay, and Morgan Todd were the Jets with shots on target. 
-Apodaca recorded five saves in 90 minutes played. 
-Logan Riley played all 90 minutes. 
-The Gorillas had three different goal scorers. 

Newman is back in action on Sunday to take on No. 25 Central Missouri in Warrensburg at 1 PM.
