WICHITA- The Jets hosted Northwest Missouri State in a Friday night MIAA matchup. The last time out, the Jets fell to a talented Central Missouri team , 3-0. This time out the Jets fell 3-0 to the Bearcats.
How it Happened:
- The first set was all Bearcats. Northwest Missouri was able to jump out to a lead and keep that lead for the entirety of the set. They started off the set with a 10-4 lead. The Bearcats would then extend their lead to 15-6. The Jets could never quite match the Bearcats on the offensive end. Newman recorded more attacking attempts than Northwest Missouri and held the Bearcats to only ten kills in the set, but the Jets could only record six kills of their own. The Bearcats took the first set, 25-12.
- In the second set the Bearcats kept their offense going from the first set. Taking the early lead at 7-4. A kill from
Hannah Tymitz cut the Bearcats lead to just two at 7-5. A kill from
McKenna Rhodes gave the Jets energy at the 8-6 mark, but receiving errors by Newman caused the Jets to take the first timeout of the set. After the timeout, the Jets went on a 2-0 run with help from a service ace by
Ashton George to cut the game to 10-8. A kill by
Madalyn Hoot and a hitting error by the Bearcats allowed the Jets to climb back and tie the set at 13 all. Kills by
Makenna Reinert and
Avery Kelley kept the Jets in the game at 18-16. The Bearcats found momentum after that mark with a 2-0 run of their own to take the lead at 20-16. This run forced the Jets to take their second timeout of the set. After the timeout, the Bearcats went on a 6-2 run to take the set at 25-18.
- In the third set the Bearcats jumped out to another lead at 12-5. In the first five points the Jets scored, Rhodes and Ajekwu tallied a kill a piece. A kill by Reinert helped the Jets battle back to 14-7. After the 14-7 mark, the Bearcats went on a 5-2 run to make the score 19-8. After this run by the Bearcats, kills by Reinert and Kelley tried to get the Jets going, but the deficit was too large for the Jets to overcome.Northwest Missouri took the third set, 25-12.
- The Jets fell to NW, 3-0.
