A block and kill by Ajekwu gave some life into the Jets side of the net to make the game 22-11, but it was too late for Newman to complete a comeback. Missouri Western took set two, 25-12.
-In set two the Jets found a new energy and stuck with the Griffons through the first part of the set. Kills by
Silvia Fisher and Reinert had the Jets within three points at 13-10. The Griffons went on a run to extend their lead to 16-11, but another kill by Fisher stopped the run. The Griffons then took the game to 19-13 which forced the Jets to take their first timeout of the third set. After the timeout, the Jets battled back to make it a 22-16 game.
