PITTSBURG, Kan.- Volleyball traveled to Pittsburg to take on the Gorillas for the second match up this season. The last head to head with the Gorillas, the Jets were able to take one set from Pitt State but the Gorillas came out on top, 3-1. This time out,
How it Happened:
- The Gorillas hopped out to an early lead of 8-5. After the 8-5 mark, the Jets kept fighting to keep the Gorillas within reach. Kills from
Madalyn Hoot and Oizioma Ajekwu pushed the Jets within four points at 14-10. Pittsburg State was then able to extend their lead back to six with two straight points. A kill by
McKenna Rhodes stopped the Gorillas run, but the Gorillas were able to rally back and take the lead 18-11. The Jets tried to put together a run to cut the deficit, but could only come within six points at 23-16. Newman could never quite complete the run back. The Gorillas took set one, 25-18.
- The second set was a close battle for both squads. Pittsburg State was up early at 8-4 but the Jets found a way to rally back with help from a
Natalie Meyer kill and a few Gorilla errors which put the score at 10 all. The Jets took their first lead of the set at 12-11 due to a kill from Mckenna Reinert and an error from the Gorillas. This lead change forced the Gorillas to take their first timeout of the set. After the timeout, the Gorillas were able to take back the lead at 14-13. The Jets then battled back to take their second lead of the set at 16-15 with another error by the Gorillas. The Gorillas then made a run back and took the lead back. After this lead change, the Gorillas never gave it back up. Newman dropped the second set, 25-20.
- The Jets came into the third set with a new energy and hopped out to an early lead with help from kills by
Silvia Fisher and Reinert.
Avery Dempsey also recorded two service aces to make the score 6-2. This run forced the Gorillas to take an early timeout, their first of the third set. Kills by
Hannah Tymitz and Ajekwu helped extend the Jets lead to 9-4. The Gorillas made a run back at the Jets to cut the score to just 11-10 with the Jets still on top. This run by the Gorillas forced Newman to take their first timeout of the set. After the timeout, the Gorillas went on a run and took the lead at 19-12. Kills by
McKenna Rhodes and Fisher tried to cut into the Gorillas lead, but Pitt State held strong at 20-14. Newman tried to cut into the deficit with kills by Rhodes and Reinert, but could never close the gap. The Jets fell 25-19.
- Pittsburg State took the match, 3-0.

- Ajekwu led the Jets with nine kills.
- Reinert tallied seven kills.
- Trigo added 14 digs and four assists.
- Hoot recorded 15 assists and five digs.
The Jets stay on the road for their next two match ups at Fort Hays State and at Nebraska Kearney next Friday and Saturday.
