WICHITA- The Jets matched up against Rogers State in a Friday night MIAA match up. Last time out, the Jets fell to Central Missouri in Warrensburg. This time out, the Jets fell short to the Hillcats 4-1.
How it Happened:
- In the first half the Hillcats had two quick goals. The Hillcats put a goal on the board in the 1st minute. Only 11 minutes later, the Hillcats were able to add another goal to take the early lead 2-0. Alix Tirado-Negrete was the goal scorer for the first two goals for the Hillcats, securing a brace in just 13 minutes. Keiana Jones was able to put the Hillcats third goal of the half on the board with 9 minutes left to play. The Jets had some opportunities on the goal in the first half, with
Grace Long,
Kinsey Logan, and
Ariana Sweitzer all having close looks. Though the Hillcats entered the half on top, the Rogers State only won the possession battle at 52%. Newman tallied eight total shots and four saves in the half. The Jets went into halftime down, 3-0.
- In the second half, the Jets found the scoreboard with a goal by
Allison Hernandez in the 56th minute. The goal by Hernandez cut the deficit to just 3-1 with lots of time still left to play. The Jets had multiple opportunities on goal in the second half.
Marta Aranda had a look on goal in the 80th minute, but the Hillcats were able to keep the Jets at just one goal. With six minutes left,
Delphine Sosu broke out of the defense for an open look at the goal but the Hillcats goalkeeper was able to make the save. Less than a minute later, Hillcats Alix Tirado-Negrete hit her third goal of the game to complete her hat trick. This fourth goal by Rogers State put the game away. In the second half the Jets recorded nine shots compared to the Hillcats six shots.Â
