Jets drop contest to Riverhawks

Women’s Soccer falls 2-0

WICHITA- The Jets hosted Northeastern State for a Sunday afternoon match up. The last time out, the Jets lost to Rogers State 4-1.  This time out, the Jets fell to Northeastern, 2-0. 

How it Happened: 
- In the first half the Jets had some chances in their attacking third and had an even battle for possession. The Riverhawks first had a chance on goal after a good service from the corner, but Emma Lintecum was able to snag the ball to make the save and keep the Riverhawks off the board. In the 14th minute, Allison Hernandez had a great shot on goal but the Riverhawk goalie punched the ball away giving the Jets a corner kick. Off the corner service, Delphine Sosu was able to get her head on the ball, but the shot was off target. In the 19th minute, Northeastern State had multiple shots on goal but the Jets defense held strong and blocked those shots to get out of the dangerous situation. In the 20th minute, a great ball by Sosu found Maylani Birckbichler in the box but Birckbichler couldn't get enough power on the ball and missed just left of the goal. Sosu had another chance to put the ball in the back of the net off of a corner service in the 27th minute but her shot missed wide left. In the first half, the Riverhawks only out shot the Jets by three, 8-5. Both the Jets and Riverhawks tallied two shots on goal. Heading into the half, both teams were held scoreless. 
- In the first five minutes of the second half our offense found a chance at the goal but Makenzie Shay missed just high to remain scoreless. In the 55th and 56th minute the Riverhawks had dangerous looks on the goal but both shots were off target to keep the score at 0-0. In the 58th minute the Riverhawks had an opportunity on goal but Carla Apodaca was able to put a glove on it to make the save. Ariana Sweitzer had a long shot on the goal in the 60th minute but the keeper for the Riverhawks made the save. In the 64th minute the Riverhawks were awarded a penalty kick due to a handball in the box. The Riverhawks were able to connect on the PK and took the lead 1-0. Loga Riley had a shot on goal in the 73rd minute but the NSU goalie was able to make another save. Morgan Todd took a long shot in the 80th minute to try and tie the game, but the ball sailed over the crossbar, which allowed the Riverhawks to keep the lead with ten minutes left to play. Cassie Moeder had a shot in the 84th minute but couldn't connect. The Riverhawks were able to put the game away in the 84th minute with a goal by Olivia Kucharyski to put NSU on top, 2-0. The Jets were unable to score in the remaining six minutes. 
- The Jets fell to the Riverhawks, 2-0.

- Lintecum recorded three saves through 45 minutes played, allowing zero goals.
- Six different Jets tallied shots on goal.
