WICHITA- The Jets continued their great form with a powerful 5-1 win over the Northeastern State RiverHawks. Newman hadn't played since September 25th, when they took down No. 22 Southern Nazarene in the conference opener. After scoring five goals on a ranked opponent, the Jets were able to score five again making it ten goals in two games. The last time Newman beat Northeastern was in 2019 with a 0-1 final score.
How It Happened:
- The RiverHawks started the game strong and were able to get on the scoreboard in the third minute after a nice goal from Donovan Aparicio. Cordova was unable to stop a well placed shot to the top right corner of the Jets goal.Â
- The Jets stayed clam and took the initiative, dominating the ball and forcing the RiverHawks back into their half og the field.Â
- Only seven minutes after NSU's goal, Cameron Schroder scored a beautiful goal off of a great play by Nicolo Lai and Alberto Romano to make it 1-1. It's Schroder's second goal in as many games.Â
- Two minutes later a penalty kick was awarded to Newman. Alberto Romano scored a well taken pk to give the Jets the lead. It was Romano's fifth goal of the season but he wasn't done yet.Â
- In the 38th minute, a classy combination between Tomas Melon and Mario de Roque Zazon assisted Romano with a millimetric cross to his head that ended in the third goal of the night and the second for him.Â
- Newman dominated the first half with a 3-1 score and out shooting NSU 13-7.Â
- Â The Jets wanted to put the game away early in the second half, and they did. An association between the Dias Juliani brothers in the 6th minute of the second half ended with Gabriel Dias Juliani scoring his fifth goal of the season.
- To wrap up the Jets fantastic performance, Felipe Calderaro scored an outstanding goal from outside of the box to make it 5-1 for Newman. Calderaro was assisted by Asa Moncivais and Brandon Garcia.Â

- Romano regains the lead in the Jets offense with 6 goals and makes his first assist of the season.Â
- Gabriel Dias Juliani scores his fifth goal of the season. He has now scored in four games in a row.Â
- Nicolo Lai records his fifth assist of the season.Â
- Brandon Garcia and Tomas Melon make their first assist of the season.Â
- Juan Carlos Cordova adds 8 saves to his tally.Â
The Jets move to (5-3, 2-0) and will face Rogers State at Wilkins Field on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
