Second half drama downs Jets in Claremore

Dias Juliani scores seventh of the season

Claremore, Okla. -The Jets traveled to Claremore to face the Rogers State Hillcats in their first out of two games in Oklahoma this week. Newman was coming off of two consecutive home wins against Ouachita Baptist and Harding, and was looking to continue the streak. RSU was coming back after losing 1-2 to Southern Nazarene in their only game last week. The match ended 5-2 after a very eventful second half.

How It Happened
  • The first half was a very competitive half with both teams dominating at different points. The Jets had most of the possession, while the Hillcats were comfortable staying back and waiting for their opportunity to attack. Newman out shot Rogers State 5-4 but none of the Jets shots were between the three post. Guilherme Borges added three saves to keep the game scoreless.
  • The second half started with a goal from RSU in the first minute off of a quick counter attack. Six minutes later, the Hillcats found the back of the net again after a great free kick strike from Erik Hjertsson that hit the post and went in. Less than thirty seconds after the second goal, Rogers State added a third one. A very intense pressure from the Hillcats forced a Jet error in defense and led to the third goal of the match. The Jets cut down the difference to two goals after a great corner kick service from Gustavo Dias Juliani found Gael Gonzalez's head to get the ball past the Hillctas goal keeper for the first time in the match. A minute later, the Jets went down a men with 37 minutes left in the half. Another quick counter attack from the Hillcats ended in a goal in the 67th minute to put the score at 4-1. The Jets fought back once again and were able to get on the score sheet another time to bring the difference back down to two. Gabriel Dias Juliani finished a great cross from Tomas Melon to put a 4-2 score. In the last minute of the match, the Hillcats scored their fifth and final goal to leave a final 5-2 score. Both teams had the same amount of shots, with 14.
