WICHITA.- The Jets finished off their weekend against Northwest Missouri State. The last time out, the Jets fell to the Griffons, 3-0. Northwest Missouri is coming off of a tie against Central Oklahoma. The Bearcats had one win in conference before matching up with the Jets. The Jets fell to the Bearcats, 2-0.
How It Happened:
- The first half was a battle for the Jets. The Jets defense held the Bearcats scoreless for the first 43 minutes of play.
Carla Apodaca had two saves in the first half to help the Jets defense.
Cassie Moeder gave the Jets a chance to score but just missed. In the 43rd minute, Margaret Madden connected with the net as she was assisted by Abby Overbay to put the Bearcats on top 1-0. After the sole Bearcats goal, neither team was able to add a goal. At halftime, the Jets were down 1-0. The Bearcats out shot the Jets in the first half, 11-3.
- In the second half, the Jets had a few more chances on goal to tie the game up.
Marta Aranda had a good look to put the Jets on the board, but the shot was blocked in the 71st minute.
Maylani Birckbichler had a chance to connect off of a free kick, but the first chance was blocked and her second shot off of the deflection was saved by the Bearcats goalkeeper. In the 82nd minute, the Bearcats were able to put in another goal after a shot ricocheted off the goal post and found Bearcat, Madden, alone in the box who put the ball away. The Jets tried to close the gap, but ran out of time. Newman fell to the Bearcats, 2-0.
