Jets cruise past Bluejays in home opener

Murphy and Medalie both score 14

WICHITA- The Jets hosted Tabor College for a midweek non-conference match up. The last time out, the Jets fell short to a ranked Arkansas Tech team. This time out, the Jets dominated

How it Happened:
-The Jets smothered the Bluejays in the first eight minutes of play. Newman was able to jump out to a 16-0 run. Elmore connected with a sole free throw to start off the Jets offense. Sam Somerhalder then scored the next four for the Jets to take the lead at 5-0. Deadric Fikes got in on the action with a three pointer to keep the run going. A Somerhalder slam put the Jets up 10. Aaron Murphy added two on back to back possessions to take the lead at 14-0. Thatcher McClure was able to add a jumper, giving the Jets a 16-0 lead. Finally, the Bluejays scored at the 11:10 mark with a three pointer. The Jets continued to dominate the first half of play. At the media, the Bluejays were able to cut the deficit to 12, at 20-8. After the media timeout, the Jaden Gales connected with a two. Tabor answered right back with two of their own. Gales added another two to take the Jets to 24 points. A three by Jacob Joe made the game a 15 point spread with under eight minutes left in the half. Gales struck again, hitting a three and a dunk to make the deficit even larger. This took Gales to nine points in just seven minutes of play. The Bluejays were able to find points here and there, but were never able to put a run together to make a difference in the deficit. Sam Medalie connected with his first bucket of the day at the 5:47 mark to make the game 34-17, with Newman leading. With over two minutes remaining in the half, Jordan Glenn-Hawkins connected with a three to take it to 38-22. On the next possession, Murphy hit the Jets second three in a row to make it a 19 point game. The Jets went into halftime with the lead at 48-22. Murphy led the Jets in scoring with 11 points. Somerhalder added nine points, four assists, and four rebounds in the half. 
-Out of half time, Boston Stanton II connected with his first bucket of the night. The next possession, Jayden Schoen also scored his first of the night to extend the Jets lead to 54-22. Somerhalder found his first bucket of the second half at the 18 minute mark. Within the first three minutes of play, the Jets were up big at 61-27. The Bluejays kept trying to battle back but the Jets were too dominant. At the 14 minute mark, McClure connected with a three then forced a turnover on the other end that led to a Gales breakaway layup. This series led to the Jets leading 71-34. McClure added to his nightly total off of an offensive rebound put back that kept the offense hot. With a Joe three, the Jets extended the game to a 40+ point deficit at the six minute mark. With a trip to the free throw line, McClure hit the 100 point threshold with 2:30 to play. The Jets ended their dominate performance with a 108-51 win over the Bluejays. 

Player Notes:
-Muprhy and Medalie led the way with 14 points a piece. 
-Somerhalder added 11 points, seven assists, and five rebounds. 
- Three other Jets, McClure, Clayton, and Gales all added 11 points.

The Jets are back Saturday to face Kansas Chrisitan at 3 PM in Fugate Gymnasium.
