WICHITA- The Jets hosted Barclay for a morning midweek match up. Last week, the Jets went 2-0 against Tabor College and Kansas Christian.
How it Happened:
-In the first half, scores by
Sam Somerhalder and
Boston Stanton III led the Jets to an early 7-3 lead which forced the Bears to take their first timeout within the first two minutes of play. A layup by
Devin Walker and three pointer by Aimee Rutayisire took this lead out to 12-3. A steal and layup by Walker put the Jets even further out front. Going into the first media, the Jets had the lead at 14-3. After the media timeout,
Jaden Gales made a great defensive play for a steal and lay on the other end.
Jacob Joe got involved on the Jets offensive end. Gales connected with his fourth point of the day to extend the Jets lead to 21-5.
Deadric Fikes scored his first bucket of the day after connecting with three from the top of the key.
Aaron Murphy earned a trip to the free throw line the next possession and connected with both. The Jets defense was strong, allowing only seven points in the first ten minutes of play. Barclay was able to get their offense going, getting to the 20 point mark with 5:30 to go in the half. However, the Jets offense was strong enough to keep the deficit at 20 points.
Sam Medalie found Murphy underneath the basket for Murphy's sixth point of the contest, taking the lead to 44-24. Tyler Hinton for the Bears scored his 13th point of the half with a jumper to cut the deficit to 51-26, but the Bears couldn't string together a run. Joe scored the last basket for the Jets in the half to record his 9th of the half to put the Jets up 54-28. In the first half, the Jets shot 51% from the field and 44.4% from the three.
- Out of the break, the Bears scored first, but on the next possession Somerhalder connected to get the Jets offense started. After the Somerhalder bucket Rutayisire connected with his seventh point of the day to take the game to 58-30. Somerhalder was able to score the next possession to make it a 30 point deficit. Later, Walker found Somerhalder off of a steal to slam down his 14th point of the game. At the first media timeout of the second half the Jets had the lead at 69-36. Medalie and Joe hit back to back three pointers to take the game to 75-38. With 8:21 left to play, Walker added his ninth point of the game with a layup. Fikes connected from the corner for his 12th point of the game with just under five minutes to go. The next defensive possession Fikes recorded his fourth steal of the game. Gales continued to keep the Jets offense hot with an offensive rebound putback to take the game to 88-52 going into the last media timeout. Medalie found Joe in the corner for his tenth assist on the game and Joe's 15th point. After another steal from Fikes, Medalie found Fikes for the alley oop to take the game to a 40 point deficit with just over 3 minutes to play. The Jets finished out the game with a 105-58 win.

The Jets are back in Fugate on Friday to face Oklahoma Baptist.
