RUSSELLVILLE, Ark.-The Jets traveled to Arkansas to open the season in the Arkansas Tech Classic. On day one of play, the Jets faced Southwestern Oklahoma State where they downed the Bulldogs, 80-64.
How it Happened:
-The Jets started the first half with an 8-2 run with two three pointers by
Boston Stanton III and a bucket by
Jordan Glenn-Hawkins. The Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run after that to tie up the game at eight a piece. The Jets then retook the lead at 13-8 after free throws by
Sam Somerhalder and a jumper by
Thatcher McClure. The Jets held on to their lead until the Bulldogs were able to tie the game back up at 17 all. A three by
Sam Medalie regained the Jets lead. The Bulldogs were able to push back and keep the game within reach. The Jets found themselves still on top after a jumper by Stanton III, but the Bulldogs were able to tie the game at 29 all after a 4-0 run to end the half. Stanton III led the Jets in the half with ten points adding two rebounds. Medalie added five points going 2-2 from the field in the half.
-In the second half, the Jets struck first with a three by
Jayden Schoen to take the lead at 32-29. The next possession, the Jets defense forced a Bulldogs turnover. Off this turnover, the Jets scored two points to keep the run going. The Jets kept putting pressure on the Bulldogs and extended their lead to 38-29 with 17 minutes to play. The Bulldogs were able to close the gap with a run of their own to cut the Jets lead to only four at 38-34. Schoen then scored on back to back possessions to make the game a seven point difference. The Bulldogs then answered with a three and a layup on back to back possessions to cut the lead back to just four. The game was a close contest until Newman was able to put another run together with three pointers by
Aaron Murphy and Mcclure, and a steal and layup by
Devin Walker. This run put the Jets up by ten points with under ten minutes to play. The Bulldogs continued to battle, but the Jets kept pushing back. The Bulldogs cut the lead to eight, but the Jets fought back and pushed their lead up to 15 after Stanton III completed a three point play along with a fast break layup and Somerhalder added a two point bucket. This run pushed the Jets to a 70-55 lead. This run was extended by Walker a minute later with a three to put the Jets up 18 with four and a half minutes to play. The Bulldogs tried to fight back and cut the deficit, but they ran out of time. The Jets took their season opener, 80-64.Â

-Stanton III led the Jets in points with 15, going 6-10 from the field.
-Somerhalder added 13, going 5-6 with four rebounds and four assists.
-McClure added nine points and six rebounds.
