Volleyball celebrates Senior Day against No. 11 Central Oklahoma

Jets fall to talented Bronchos team, 3-0

WICHITA- The Jets hosted the No. 11 Bronchos for their final home game of the 2024 season. Yesterday, the Jets fell short to the Lions at 3-1. Today, the Jets fell in three sets to the Bronchos.

How it Happened:
-The Jets were able to take the first lead, 5-3, after a few Bronchos errors and kills by Makenna Reinert and Ozioma Ajekwu.Central Oklahoma was then able to take the lead after a few errors by the Jets to make it 6-5. After the Bronchos retook the lead, they were able to extend their lead to 13-17. Back to back kills by McKenna Rhodes and Silvia Fisher stopped the Bronchos run to make it 14-9 still in favor of the Bronchos. The talented Bronchos squad pushed back at the Jets to extend their lead back to seven points at 17-10. Another kill by Reinert stopped this push by the Bronchos. The Jets pushed back to cut the Bronchos lead to just five, 19-14, after a kill by Hannah Tymitz and Ajekwu. After this push by the Jets, the Bronchos were able to run away with the set. Central Oklahoma took the set, 25-18. Ajekwu tallied four kills in the set to lead the Jets offense.
-The Jets started off the set with a kill by Reinert. Central Oklahoma then scored three in a row to take the lead at 4-1. A kill by Ajekwu and a Bronchos error cut the game to 4-3. From then, the Bronchos went on a run to secure the lead at 10-5. This small run forced the Jets to take their first timeout of the set. After the timeout, the Bronchos were able to continue their run and extend their lead to 15-6. A kill by Natalie Meyer paused the Bronchos run to make it a 16-7 game, but Central Oklahoma was able to score the next point and take a ten point lead. Kills by Ajekwu, Fisher, and Tymitz allowed the Jets to cut into the Bronchos deficit. A Reinert kill closed the gap to just three points at 24-21, but the Jets couldn't complete the comeback. The Bronchos took set two, 25-21.
-The Jets battled for the first ten points of the set, keeping it a tie game at five all. Through the first five points that went the Jets way, four were kills. The Bronchos were then able to take a seven point lead at 13-6 which made the Jets call a timeout. After the Jets timeout, Central Oklahoma was able to take their lead to 21-11. This large deficit created by the Bronchos made it difficult for the Jets to make a run back. The Bronchos took set three, 25-11.

Player Notes:
-Ajekwu led the Jets offense with 12 kills.
-Reinert added 6 kills.
-Natalie Trigo tallied 16 digs.

The Jets hit the road next week to finish up conference play at Central Missouri and Missouri Southern State.
