Jets dominate Knights in non-conference matchup

Glenn-Hawkins lead the Jets with 18 points in win over Spurgeon

WICHITA- The Jets hosted Spurgeon for a non-conference match up. Against the Knights, the Jets cruised to a win at 93-72. This win against the Knights moves the Jets to 7-2 on the season.

How it Happened:
-Spurgeon was first to put points on the scoreboard with a three-pointer on the third possession of the game. Another three by the Knights put them with a small lead at 6-2. After these threes, the Jets went on a 16-0 run to take the lead at 18-6. During this 16-point run, Jordan Glenn-Hawkins added seven points, Boston Stanton III added four, Aaron Murphy connected with a three, and Devin Walker connected with two points. Spurgeon was able to stop the run with another three-pointer, but the Jets were able to answer with a Thatcher McClure layup. On the next possession, Deadric Fikes connected with his first basket of the day, where he connected with an and one to put the Jets up 23-9 with just over 12 minutes to play in the half. McClure then hit his fifth point of the day after knocking down a three to take the Jets up 15 points. The Jets offense continued to score, with McClure connecting with another three and Jacob Joe scoring his first points of the day. Drew Middleton of the Knights was single-handedly keeping Spurgeon within striking distance. At the 6:41 mark left in the half, Middleton had connected with 14 of the Knights 24 points. The Knights cut the Jets lead to just 12 with over four minutes to play. Stanton III connected with his 12th point at the 2:44 mark. Heading into the half, the Jets led at 55-33. In the first half, the Jets shot 50% from the field and 54.5% from the three. 
-Spurgeon came out of the half making a 4-0 run to cut into the large deficit. Sam Medalie was the first Jet to score, his first points of the day, at the 19-minute mark to keep the deficit at 20. At the 17-minute mark, Stanton III added his 14th point with a layup after forcing the Knights into a turnover. Jayden Schoen got involved on the offensive end with a three-pointer to take the Jets up 65-42. Middleton kept the Knights going, posting his 18th point of the night around the 15-minute mark. After a timeout, Sam Somerhalder found Jaden Gales for a fast break dunk which gave the Jets the momentum. Somerhalder then scored his sixth point with a layup to keep the Knights with a 20-point deficit. Gales then scored the next four points for the Jets with two baskets at the rim, to take Newman up 73-49. Spurgeon then went on a 7-0 run to close the gap to 73-56. Joe then earned his way to the free throw line where he made all three free throws to keep the Jets going. Though the Knights made great efforts in putting runs together in the final five minutes, the Jets never allowed them to get back within striking distance. The Jets closed out the game with a 93-72 win. 

Player Notes:
- Glenn-Hawkins led the Jets with 18 points, going 10-10 from the free throw line, adding four steals and five rebounds. 
- Stanton III scored 16 points, with three steals and four rebounds. 
- McClure added 12 points with four rebounds and two steals. 
- Gales recorded 11 points with seven rebounds, going 5-10 from the field. 
- With the win over Spurgeon, the Jets move to 7-2 on the season.
