FORT SMITH, Ark.- The Jets traveled to Arkansas to face the Lions. Last time out, the Jets downed the Riverhawks, 85-66. Against the Lions, the Jets took the win at 70-67. This win puts the Jets at 2-0 in MIAA play.
How it Happened:
-The Lions started the first half on a 6-0 run. Boston Stanton III put the Jets on the board with a layup. Jordan Glenn-Hawkins and Isaiah Elmore both added points to make it a six all game. The Jets then took the lead at 8-6 with a basket by Sam Somerhalder. Aaron Murphy connected with a three at the 15 minute mark to take the Jets to a four point lead. Stanton III then made a defensive play to record a steal that led to a Somerhalder layup to put the Jets up six at the first media timeout. After the media break, the Lions cut the deficit to just one point, but Somerhalder answered with a bucket and two free throws to extend the Jets lead to five. The Lions kept battling back and were able to tie the game with 9:33 left in the half. The Jets and Lions were both held scoreless for two minutes, until the Lions connected with a three to take the lead at 20-17. Stanton III tied the game back up with his fifth point of the game. Jacob Joe then scored his first points, with a three to take back the lead. With 3:45 left to play in the half, the Lions had the lead at 26-25. Sam Medalie and Jaden Gales then both scored to help the Jets steal back the advantage. To end the half, the Lions went on a small run to hold the lead at 34-32.
-Out of the halftime break, The Lions were first to score that put their lead out to 37-32. Baskets by Glenn-Hawkins, Stanton III, and Medalie put the Jets within three points. The Lions were then able to extend their lead back to five points. At the first media break of the second half, the Lions had the 45-42 lead. After the break, Somerhalder scored his tenth point to make it a one point deficit. The Jets then made a run with baskets by Stanton III, Gales, and Devin Walker to give the Jets the advantage at 53-48. The Jets offense kept rolling, extending the lead to five with another basket by Somerhalder. With 9:05 left in the half, the Jets had the seven point lead. Gales added his 11th point in the seventh minute to keep the Jets lead steady at six points. Elmore added more points to his daily total with a jumper to put the Jets up eight with six to play. The Lions kept battling back, able to close it to four points. However, the Jets continued to answer the call. More points by Elmore took the lead to nine with two minutes to play. The Lions then went on a run to cut the game to 65-62 with just over a minute to play. Somerhalder connected with his 18th point of the game to take it to five points with 29 seconds left. UAFS kept battling back, bringing it to a one point game after an and one was completed by Tommie Williams of the Lions with just seven seconds left. The Lions then sent Glenn-Hawkins to the line with six seconds left, where he connected with both to make it a Jets three point lead. The Lions had a look at the buzzer to tie it, but missed. The Jets took the win, 70-67.
