Jets finish Oklahoma road trip in Weatherford

WEATHERFORD, Okla. - Newman Baseball completed their final stretch of road games to open the year, as they took on Southwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday afternoon.

The Jets had their share of highs and lows last weekend against Southeastern Oklahoma State, with the Jets having two games of explosive offense, while the other was marred by slow starts at the plate and in the field.

Newman would find some early success in the first inning, as Jason Schneider got in a position to score after stealing second base. The next two batters would be struck out swinging, leaving another runner on base, which the Jets have struggled with this season.

A home run in the bottom of the inning gave the Bulldogs a one run lead, and after getting the ensuing Jets batters out in the second, stamped their mark on the lead with a four run inning.

Jacob Butash would score the first run of the day for Newman in the fourth inning, after Nick Baba was picked off at second base. While the Jets would get on the scoreboard, it was still a five run advantage in favor of the Bulldogs.

A triple in the fifth inning separated the two teams, with the hit scoring three runs for Southwestern Oklahoma State.

Two more Bulldog runs settled the game, as the Jets lost via the run rule in the seventh inning.

Schneider and Kellen Landstad each had a hit for Newman.

Garrett Calderon was marked with his first loss of the season, as he struck out one batter in 1.1 innings of work, while allowing five runs. Three other pitchers saw action for Newman during the course of the game.

The Jets will have their first series at home this weekend, taking on Concordia St. Paul for a three game series beginning on Friday.
