Bomersbach's home run highlights series finale against Golden Bears

Jets go down early, but fight back to score ten runs

WICHITA - Newman Baseball wrapped up their first series at home on Monday, facing Concordia St Paul in the final game of a three game series at McCarthy Field.

The Jets, while losing the previous day, had shown that they could be a major offensive threat, with Newman scoring seventeen runs and finishing with nineteen hits. The Jets would fight back to take the lead after going down early to the Golden Bears, but they could not keep up with them offensively.

CSP started where they left off yesterday, leading to an ugly 10-0 lead for the visitors through two innings.

This seemed to have woken the Jets up as in the third inning, a double from Garrett Arnold led to three runners scoring.

In the following inning, Will Bomersbach hit a solo home run to center field to give the Jets some momentum. Bombersbach wasn't done, as in the next inning his single led to Arnold scoring.

The Jets were able to shut down the Golden Bears for time after the first several innings, with Newman holding them scoreless in the next four innings before they got two back in the sixth.

An Eli Wohl single in the seventh inning led to two runners scoring, and putting the Navy and Red in a great position for a comeback attempt after struggling at the beginning of the game.

Another run in the ninth gave Newman its tenth run of the day, but the game once again turned into a back and forth offensive battle, which was ultimately won in the early stages of the game by Concordia St Paul. The Bears won game three, 18-10 and took the series.

The Jets had thirteen hits in the game, with Hunter Brown, Arnold and Bomersbach each having two.

Eli Wohl had the best hitting day overall, with three hits and four RBI's for the leadoff hitter to end the series.

Despite a tough start to his afternoon and being marked with a loss, Connor Rowe pitched well and threw one hundred times. His efforts helped shutout the Golden Bears for the next three innings before he was taken out. Rowe would also finish the day with four strikeouts.

Newman will head to Southwestern College for a midweek game on Tuesday, and will open conference play against Rogers State beginning on Friday.
