Box Score Winfield, Ks. – Newman Baseball picked up a win on the road against Southwestern College on Tuesday, scoring three runs deep into the game to get the win.
The Jets, while scoring many runs against Concordia St Paul over the weekend, were unable to find a series win against the Golden Bears.
Newman again fell behind early, but made the deficit manageable by going down just one run against the Mound Builders.
After two scoreless innings for Newman, the Jets really turned on the offense, taking a three-run lead in the third.
Nick Chasey started the scoring for Newman, after his double led to
Hunter Brown getting the Jets their first run of the day.
Eli Wohl would reach first base on a throwing error, which propelled Chasey to score a run of his own.
Jason Schneider and
Will Bomersbach each had a single in the inning, which allowed two more Newman runs to be scored.
The Mound Builders quietly got their way back into the game and would end up tying the game at four runs a piece in the fifth inning.
Newman, while continually getting in scoring opportunities, were unable to get the go ahead run to win the game in nine innings, taking Southwestern to a tenth inning.
Pitcher
Brycen Schoenhofer helped keep Southwestern scoreless in the final innings, just allowing two hits through 5.1 innings.
In the tenth and final inning,
Trent Trammell had a huge single that allowed
Jack Kiser to score the winning run of the day. Another single from
Joe Kinneberg later in the inning out the game on ice, as Trammell and Schneider scored to give the Jets a 7-4 lead.
Lance Elsen saw the game out for Newman in the bottom of the inning, striking out the final two batters to give Newman the 7-4 win on the road.
Schneider had two hits and an RBI in the win, while also scoring a team high two runs in the game. Kinneberg had two RBIs, including his second in the tenth inning.
Brycen Schoenhofer earned his first win of the season, striking out three and allowing only one run.
The Jets will turn their attention to the start of conference play on Friday, as they will host Rogers State for a three game series beginning on Friday.
